Deception // Mackenzie Jackson

I really enjoyed the reading of Tartuffe. I thought it was very easy to understand, unlike many things we read in Honors. Although I do believe this play has so many common themes that I could base my post on, I believe deception was one of my favorites and most interesting in this play.
The point that really stuck out to me in Tartuffe was the fact that this whole time Tartuffe believed he was fooling everyone, but he was unable to fool the king. Tartuffe believes the police officer is coming to arrest Orgon, but instead the officer states “The King perceived the whole perverseness and corruption of his soul”(Molière). The King in this story is like God for us. We often do things and believe we are getting away with it by everyone, but we have to remember that God knows and sees all. He knows our deepest darkest secrets. This also allowed me to think about the fact that God allows us to sin. Our choice of free will allows us to determine what we do in this life. As Tartuffe chooses to make everyone think that he is this amazing man, he is actually the one who is causing all the trouble in town. Overall, I am so relieved that Orgon finally opened his eyes and allowed his daughter to marry her true love because I can not imagine someone having to live the rest of their life with someone they do not love.

I commented on Stephen Davis and Jamie Peters post.
