God's Goodness Remands - Devin Monasterio

Book X:
"Clothed us unworthy, pitying while He judged,
How much more if we pray Him will His ear
be open and His heart to pity incline" Eve speaking (lines 1059-1061)

Eve speaks how the Lord clothed her even when she had disobeyed. Continuing, she realizes that with his "pity" or rather grace, how much more could He do for her if she reaches out to him.
It just reminds me of Psalms 40:1, "I waited patiently for the LORD; he inclined to me and heard me" and how Milton creates a new character of God to Eve after the fall. And a new character of The Lord that seems to not be present until Jesus' life on earth.

In a way, it gives peace that God did not wait to reveal his love and mercy to His creation. To me, it's passages like these in Paradise Lost that keep my sanity. To know it's not just a monolog of what Satan has to say or what the Angel is revealing, but that Milton can show the personal intimacy of the Lord in the beginning.

Yes! I love how Milton put a lot of God’s characteristics in his book. He put how majestic and righteous He is. I was reminded of God’s mighty power, mercy, and love. Paradise lost is NOT scripture but it shows that God loves us even though we sin. He shows mercy to us while we are sinners. I know there are so many things that we do not understand. This book just made that list longer. But it is a great reminder of the hope and salvation of Christ’s death on the cross. So that we may no longer live separated from him.
