Looking back on this book, I have realized that I relate much
more to Orgon than I would like to admit. It genuinely pains me to say that because he was literally so dumb,
but it is true. Think about it, how many times did his wife, son, and daughter
try to convince him that Tartuffe was deceitful and untrustworthy, yet he
refused to listen. How many times did Dorine warn him that Tartuffe was not who
he was pretending to be, yet Orgon would not believe it. All of the people he
should have trusted most in his life (besides his mom because she was psycho too) were telling him to stay
away. But out of his pure stubbornness, he chose to ignore them all. And what
happened? They ended up being right and he almost lost everything.
How many times do we do this? I know I do it all the time,
and I see my friends to it all the time too. Think back to when you were a kid and
your mom would say “put on a jacket because it is going to be cold today” but
you would refuse and you had to find out the hard way that your mom was right, it
was cold and you did need a jacket. Or what about that one guy or girl that you
thought hung the moon and the stars and could do no wrong, but all of your friends were telling you to stay away. You didn’t stay away and that guy or girl ended up
being just as bad for you as your friends warned you he/she would be. *Told you
so*
I think all of us can relate to Orgon on that issue. Or is
it just me?
