somebody that orgon used to know // hannah schofield

howdy, fellas!
Let's talk about a sneaky fellow named Tartuffe, shall we?
I'd like to mostly discuss the repercussions of infatuation.
This entire mess that plagues Orgon's household is essentially rooted in Orgon's annoying infatuation with the "oh-so-honorable" Tartuffe.
I was completely frustrated with Orgon's blindness at first, but then I realized, unfortunately, that I have been in his shoes a couple of times. Maybe you have to, and you can relate. But, man, it is really hard to find the bad in a person when all you want to see is the good–when you deny that they are nothing less than the perfect illusion of the person you have them painted as in your mind.
It can be the same when you have a friend that has someone toxic around them that they think highly of but the person is absolutely despicable...except, they can't see that or they don't want to.

The only time the veil of "infatuation" is lifted is when direct proof is presented, or when the person so highly respected suddenly drops all hints of their carefully constructed facade. In this case, Orgon's eyes were not opened to Tartuffe's real persona until after he had signed over his estate and his life was in jeopardy.

I suppose this can be a lesson to all of us to keep our guards up? That sounds cheesy, but had Orgon kept his up and listened to the people he was supposed to love the most, well...

Can you relate to Orgon? What do you think Orgon should have done differently?

I can definitely relate to Orgon In one situation that I experienced. Im not going to jump into details but basically my friend wasn't as good of a person as I thought, and everyone tried to tell me. Which taught me to evaluate a person's actions more than I was before. I do not necessarily think you should put your guard up, but maybe you should take a closer look at a "friend" before giving them so much of your life. If everyone is saying the same thing, then something is wrong. Keeping your guard up would also be a good reaction as well. I enjoyed reading your post and the song of the week.
