Terra, I am Orgon! Gray Moore

So, I would like to open with a disclaimer that I could be completely wrong in everything that I am about to say because reading a ply by myself is basically like asking me to listen to music with earplugs in. Anyway, one thing that I thought was really interesting in Act V was that at the very beginning, Orgon actually seems like he is trying to save face. He has gotten himself in so deep with trusting and believing in Tartuffe that he is essentially having to dig himself out of this huge hole. He is basically having an epiphany that I would venture to say most of us have had at one point about how we are becoming way too materialistic and how the people we associate ourselves with really can have a negative impact on us. What I think is funny about it thought is how quickly his son is essentially like “I mean we can kill him”. I bet that was a proud father moment for him. But honestly, Cleante has by far the best advice in Orgon’s situation that I think a lot of people can take away from. He wants him to practice patience and restraint from rash decisions that could ultimately impact his future and ability to rule. Cleante has actually been my favorite throughout this whole thing because I honestly feel like he represents a voice of reason that all of us need to acquire.

P.s. I commented on Rachael and Caroline’s posts!

I completely agree with your opinion, Gray. My favorite characters are Cleante and Dorine for that same reason. I think that it is interesting, though, is that Orgon says that he respects Cleante's opinion the most in his life, but he did not listen to it until he realized he screwed up. It draws a very symbolic line to the way we treat the Holy Spirit sometimes.

I agree with you! Cleant stuck out to me as a voice of reason as well! I also really liked the fact that you said reading a play by yourself is the equivalent to listening to music with earplugs in because.. SAME.

You are definitely right, Gray. Orgon was trying to get himself out of a hole that seemed almost impossible to get out of at the time. That is probably one of the reasons why this whole play made me feel so uneasy, and that is because I hate situations where one is just stuck and has no way out. I also appreciate you pointing out Cleante as the voice of reason because I was feeling the same way, but we also have to give props to Elmire for being such a problem solver and voice of wisdom throughout the play.
