Let's Be Real... -Sydney Snow

Alright guys, I think most of us can agree that this was a difficult piece of literature to read. I am not going to sit here and tell you that I understood everything that Hume said in his book, but I got the gist of it.

One thing that stood out to me is the fact that Hume is basically discussing the nature of God. On page 66, Philo says "Why is there any misery at all in the world? Not by chance, surely. From some cause then? Is it from the intention of the Deity? But he is perfectly benevolent. Is it contrary to his intentions? But he is almighty." This reminds me of a question my dad would often ask me. He got his question from a movie. In the Batman v. Superman movie that came out a few years ago, Lex Luther states that "If God is all-powerful, He cannot be all good. And if He is not all good, He cannot be all-powerful." The problem with that statement and others like it is that they look at God with the qualities of humans. They give human qualities to God. Topics such as these have been left undiscussed by many people because it is just too awkward to really talk about and we do not have answers to this. I personally believe the only answer/solution is to just have faith when we begin to doubt things that we have no control or understanding of.
