“…religion is also separated from morality by a ceremonial veil,
yet men wonder that the world is almost, literally speaking, a den of sharpeners
or oppressors (145).”
Now Mary Wollstonecraft has said a lot of things in her
books- some of which I can agree with and support, some of which I do not agree
with and cannot support. This statement, I can completely agree with and I think
it is still applicable today. So many people walk around and “play Christian”
but do not have a real relationship with God. By “play Christian” I mean that some
people may go to church on Sundays, Wednesdays, or every time the doors are
open but it is just for show. They only go so people see them going, not so
they can grow closer to Christ. Many people do not allow the Holy Spirit to
change their lives and grow closer to God, they only tack the term “Christian”
to the end of their name and call it a day. If this is the case, it is no
wonder that the world is so corrupt. Don’t get me wrong, we do live in a fallen
world and going to church does not make you a Christian, but the fact of the
matter is, God’s forgiveness and love changes the way you live your life and
treat others so you would no longer be part of the “den of sharpeners or oppressors,”
but you would be growing closer to the Lord daily, loving others as Christ
would.
