“If, I say, for I would not impress by declamation when Reason offers her sober light, if they be really capable of acting like rational creatures, let them not be treated like slaves; or, like the brutes who are dependent on the reason of man, when they associate with him; but cultivate their minds, give them the salutary, sublime curb of principle, and let them attain dignity by feeling themselves only dependent on God” (35). The relationship that is intended to exemplify the relationship Jesus has with his bride, the church is the relationship between men and women. So of course because of sin’s massive impact on our world, there is division and discord between men and women. According to scripture, women and men are given specific roles in a home and again because of sin, we wrestle with these God appointed roles. Men were called to lead a home and women were called to submit to their husbands leadership. Women were designed to lean on and submit to a man in marriage. These are not my words, their God’s so don’t shoot the messenger. Ephesians 5:22-24 says, Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” Men and Women are equal in significance, but when discussing individual roles and purposes they are completely different. But again, when sin entered the world, the world is now wired to go against God’s plan. For example, men may not desire the responsibility of leading and women may want to be seen as superior to men. The realization of not aligning with God’s original calling brings chaos, division, and why we have to discuss this topic so often. I’m not too excited for this discussion, it's a tough one.
