Wollstonecraft's Blog Post // Mackenzie Jackson

Men and women were made differently on purpose. I agree with Mary Wollstonecraft when she discusses that even though men and women are different, this does not mean that men are at a societal advantage over women. From a biblical standpoint, men are supposed to be the head of the household. This then leaves women to follow their husbands and lead their children as well. People in our society today forget that women were not made to be the head of the households. God commands men to be head of the household and to lead their families to the cross. Although they were made for different purposes, this does not mean they can not both have a well-rounded education. Wollstonecraft expresses her anger and tiredness of women being treated differently. She believes that by women being treated this way, they are miserable. Women are just as capable of making decisions as men are, so this means they should be able to receive an education. If women do not have an education and something were to happen to their husbands, then what would their family do? They would not be able to survive on their own because they were so dependent on this one human, instead of two.
Another point Wollstonecraft brought up that I thought was interesting is her comparison of wealth and women. She starts by describing wealthy people as lazy and unethical and goes on to say this is like women that do nothing. Although these women have the power to stand up for themselves and go get an education, they choose not to. In my opinion, this is an accurate statement because most wealthy people do not have to ever worry about money because they were born into family money. So, if women sit around and depend on their husbands to do the work, then they are the same, which does not benefit anybody.

I love your statement that the men may be considered the head of the household, but they are not the only providers, and that through this reasoning women should be given an equal chance to provide for their families. Biblically and morally this argument should stand and I love that you brought this point up!
