As I read this, many different thoughts went through my head. Those thoughts consisted of, "What is that word?", "What is going on?", "Why did they have to talk like this?", and most importantly, "What the freak is happening?" The moral of the story: Cade is very confused. I'm not going to lie, I did not read all of what we were supposed to read. I honestly just could not comprehend what was happening, and that wasn't for a lack of trying. I read probably the first 100-105 lines of Canto I about four or five times and then proceeded to complete it and go halfway through Canto II and still do not get what is happening. So, if someone would like to explain it to me tomorrow, then that would be greatly appreciated. With all of that being said, I did understand a little and it is what I would like to write the remainder of my post on; however, it has nothing to do with what is going on in the story.
In Canto I, Alexander Pope writes in lines 32-33, "or virgins visited by Angel-pow'rs, with golden crowns and wreaths of heavenly flow'rs." This obviously made me think of Mary being visited by the angel in Luke 1:26-38. It made me start to think about what angels looked like, aside from the cherubim, and what they sounded like when they spoke. Do they have deep voices like in movies and TV shows? Do they sound inhuman? Do they wear crowns and 'angelic white robes', or d they have like they equivalent to work/comfy clothes? Heck, do they even wear clothes? I would assume that they are startling. Why else when they appeared to most humans would they begin by saying "Do not be afraid."? Truly, I have no idea what the answers to any of these questions are, and the answers honestly do not really matter in the grand scheme of things. This mainly just popped into my head when I was reading because I didn't understand what it was that I was reading.
So, this blog was not one of great insight or wisdom (not that it ever is). This was more of just a look into my head. Basically how Cade's brain works when it is turned on. Those two lines did cause me to take out my bible and read through the first few chapters of Luke. It caused me to think about the angels and Mary, which led to me thinking of Jesus and His ministry and then His death. Overall, I'm glad that those few lines taken out of context caused me to read and think, because I personally need a constant reminder that I'm a sinner in need of a savior. Again, if anyone could explain to me what is happening in this story tomorrow in class then I would be very grateful.
I commented on Clabo's and Anna Grace's posts.
