Pascal // Mackenzie Jackson

Pascal was difficult to understand at certain points, but at other times made complete sense. The parts I understood I agreed strongly with and he also opened my eyes to a few things that I had never thought about before.
Pascal begins by explaining that God is infinite and almighty that, as humans, we are physically and mentally incapable of fully understanding him. I completely agree with him, and this shows why believing and trusting God is so important. In society today, many people, especially the youth, are unable to do this. I partially blame the internet. We have every answer to anything on our phones. I look up random things all the time. But when it comes to God and having faith in him, there is not always an exact answer. I also see this in many science classes. People are always trying to find answers. Scientists sometimes drive me crazy because they look for reason in everything. As Christians, we know that there is not always an exact answer. I am so thankful for my relationship with Christ and being able to trust in Him.
Secondly, Pascal discusses how we are something, but we are not everything. Society today attempts to tell us that we are everything and to only care about yourself. People are putting themselves first more and more. We have lost the connection of putting others before ourselves. We are told to do what is best for you, but sometimes we need to take a step back and think of other benefits before our own.
Pascal also explains how “nothing is purely true”(440). I hate to say this, but I believe he is right. I think he is right because even most people do good things, they look to see if others are watching or if they can somehow get praise out of their “good deed”.
I commented on Rachael and Jamie's post.

You are definitely right. Pascal makes comments and statements that are still very true to us today. We still search for answers in everything, and we are still selfish. I also completely agree with you because he was a little hard to understand at some points.

As a scientific-minded guy myself, I often get outraged whenever I come across something I just can't understand. I look for reasons in everything, and I mean, everything. That's just how I'm wired. As a result, it has taken me a while to come to terms with things that I can't understand. As Pascal says, we are incapable of understanding God, so I just need to have faith; especially when it comes to religion and other incomprehensible topics.
