Rape of the Lock: Osten

What to say about Rape or the Lock? Well first off Alexander Pope is kind of a prick because he starts off by saying "Ladies, who have good sense and good humour enough to laugh not only at their sex's little unguarded follies but at their own." and "I know how disagreeable it is to make use of hard words before a Lady". This came across as misogynistic and sexist. It sounds as if he is saying that women should laugh at their invulnerability and that they are too dumb to understand "hard words". Besides this issue, I quite liked the story however upon first reading it seems to lack intellectual depth. Unless of course there is some allegory behind the characters of which I did not pick up on. The only other thing I noted was that the Baron is exceptionally creepy and perverted.

I commented on Gabby &  Abbie.

I agree with you Osten and definitely got that vibe from the Pope. He did make some harsh comments when it came to women and their standards. I also enjoyed this ready very much and did not have that hard of a time understanding it, which explains why you felt there was a lack in intellectual depth(this is a joke). Great blog post!
