welcome to the black parade // hannah schofield

howdy, fellas!
we love just getting home from work at this time of the night, amirite :::)))))))
anyhow, let's discuss Locke's Letter of Toleration.
I'd like to mention his writing on zealots using their religion as an excuse to enslave, torture, and kill others at their expense.
He states, "The zealots claim that they are acting out of love and care for men's souls when they take their estates, maim them with whips, starve and torture them in stinking prisons, and finally kill them. If that is right–if all this is done merely to make men Christians and save their souls–then why don't these zealots also go after the prostitution, fraud, malice, and so on...that are so conspicuous among their flocks?"
I relate to his thoughts here because I've always wondered how men/women can hide behind their religious beliefs to a)scrutinize others to the point of hatred and b)decide to dehumanize others by taking away everything that makes them so.
I am an empathizer, so seeing the aftermath of a cruel person's actions always baffles me. Now that I am older I realize that there actually are people capable of feeling absolutely nothing, and that, my friends, is the scariest notion of them all.

Hannah, I think this is honestly still such a huge part of the church today and society as whole, and where people get the idea of hypocrisy in the church. I love that you obviously care enough to see people’s evil and recognize that isn’t what you want for yourself or those you love. Great blog!

Great post Hannah! You are so right! It blows my mind that people can hide behind their religion to do such horrible things! I have come to find, however, that it is not just religion that people hide behind to do those horrible things. People do those things and then claim that they had to do it for their job or because of their families. I see it all the time and it breaks my heart. But I loved how you related this post to MCR’s Welcome to the Black Parade. Great song, even better blog!

It’s awful to see those who believe they have to suffer for some “higher reward”. Jesus came to save us, he suffered for us. Yes things won’t always be easy in this world, but we were never called to receive suffering for the sake of attaining intentional something for something greater
