I honestly do not understand why we turn away from people who have gone down/are going down the wrong path. As Christians, aren't we called to love on the lost people? Aren't we supposed to be a light for Christ in those people's lives?
It seems that Locke would agree with me, or more so that I agree with him. He writes "If someone strays from the right path, that is his misfortune, not yours; and your belief that he will be miserable in the after-life is not a reason for you to give him a bad time in his present life" (7).
It is almost like Locke was speaking directly to society of today. We are so quick to judge nowadays and not get close to people who clearly need Jesus. We choose to run away from people who are on the wrong path, instead of bring them to Jesus. Jesus was known for spending time with prostitutes and drunkards and tax collectors because He knew that these people needed help, and the things He could give them could quench their thirst for something more. He did not judge them or call them out on their sins, because He knew that would lead them even more astray.
Why do we run away? It is because of how easily we can fall into that same temptation, and so instead we would rather just not touch it with an 100ft pole. We need to quit being so content with sitting in the safety of our rooms and homes reading the Bible, and instead we need to get out into the dark scary world full of sin and face it head on. It is how we are going to spread God's word, and how we can help the lost find their way again.
