Zinger # 671
“If you want people to think well of you, do not speak well
of yourself.”
I was reading through Proverbs 27 today and I came across verse
2 which states, “Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger,
and not your own lips.” Of course, the first thing that I thought of was Pascal
and his zingers. I really like this one in particular, though, because arrogance
drives me up the wall. If someone is really that good at something, others will
notice and that person will not have to say anything. If someone is having to
go around telling everyone how good they are at whatever it is they do, then they
probably aren’t that good anyway and should really probably just be quiet. I’m
telling you, the fastest way to get under my skin is to walk about being a
little conceited jerk. Just be humble. Humility looks good on everyone,
literally everyone.
