The “Lit” Sermon // Ezra Kennedy

Out of all of the sections of the wasteland the one that really caught my attention and perked my ears was “the fire sermon”.

From the start with its imager to the end with its imagery, (it’s the middle part that really makes you go “what in Hades”). The image I built from the beginning was a forest scene that existed for the time as a very exaggerated autumnal set— orange and Golden leaves strewn about and piled high, some even falling gracefully into the untainted and pure river flowing gently in front of Tiresias.

Beautiful, yeah?? It was.

Tiresias witnessed a woman and a millionaire on a beautiful date, everything seemed to be going nicely until their plates were empty and all of their food had been consumed. This millionaire dog, thinks it fitting to force himself onto his date then disappear leaving her to pick up her own shattered pieces. After the fact she’s clearly .... “retreated”. Her body moves on autopilot and pure muscle memory, her mind has receded into itself and she seems void, empty (not an unusual response for someone who has gone through such shock, to put it lightly)

The fire sermon is an interesting title to call this. What is the sermon about?? Fire, symbolically, is a means of purification or destruction, it’s something beautiful but in some cases disastrous. In what I’ve just said, the scene just after the date takes something that is meant to be pure and beautiful, then flips it into something destructive and disastrous all for the personal pleasure of the assailant. I also find the mix of that scene and the setting it took place in very interesting— a horrible occurrence within a peaceful serene environment.

Mayhaps I’ve misread and someone can help me out. ^u^’

I commented on Zane’s and Moriah’s posts.
