We are Okonkwo Osten

Wow, I loved reading this book in high school and I love reading it again. I hadn't realized how slow this book starts off. While it does give the reader plenty of time to grow attached to each of the characters, some more than others, I seem to recall it being a quicker pace. Either way, I was still saddened to read of Ikemefuna's death. The fact that Okonkwo would take part in the killing of a boy he so dearly called son was actually heartbreaking especially since he killed him as he was calling for help. This may be why his wives are plagued with evil spirits. I understand his desire to be better than his father but because of his headstrong nature to be manly and in charge, he continues to get himself in trouble. It is also interesting to note that not only is he a man of great muscle but also takes time to think about the rules of the clan and why they must apply to everyone. While he is a brute of a man, it is so easy to see ourselves just like him. How we can fall into the same, or similar, situations. I am also excited to see everyone's reaction to the end of the book.
