Esteban & the family stone

Spencer Wood

the epilog really saved my feeling after reading this book. mainly because there were finally some happy scenes. what really stuck me was the authorship that we learn about. after Alba is released from the camp and is reunited with her grandfather, Esteban convinces her to write this story. Esteban helps and even write some himself but mainly they use Clara's journals which is why there is so many voice abnormalities throughout.

I also enjoyed the "new life" that comes when Alba returns. Barrabas is back in his little spot and Esteban and Alba clean and fix up the house and everything is as it was. and finally Esteban can, and does, die happy with his family at his side.

the writing of this story was a family affair. it encompassed generations of life in order to preserve that life. and as the future generations live life they too will be tasked with maintaining a record of that life for preservation.

life's circle goes on.

I enjoyed the ending as well, it gave me a very serene and peaceful feeling. I also found that the tell-all, everything makes sense now epilogue is now really intriguing me to know more about the author's real life, and her family lineage. Makes me want to know more about my family too! Nevertheless, the ending put the cherry on top of this never-ending gloom that is the back half of this book.
