The End

My favourite part of any book is when you can see how everything has changed. The character growth or redemption is always the most fulfilling part. In this book, there was so much going on near the end and there was not a definite end with Alba. The way Allende ended this book makes me want to read another.

I commented on Ezra and Osten's posts.

Allende left the end very open, which is just another way she made it like reality. We don't know how our lives will end, it's only fitting that we don't know how Alba's life ends.

I feel the same way. I loved reading this book with anticipation to see what would happen next, but to me there always was and still is a next. It's weird when a book like this comes to an "end" because it just feels as if it is never going to end and there is always going to be something new and unexpected around the corner. I really wish I could have a sense of closure and satisfaction with this ending, but I am just left wanting more.

I definitely wanted a better conclusion to Alba's story! For Allende to put the character through so much, only to give her such a small taste of happiness at the end with no real substance seemed like a cruel trick to me.
