The Outsiders -- Breanna Poole

Last post, I made references to Gone With The Wind, a story I felt like had many parallel's to the House of the Spirits. The thing I am going to make reference to this time is a little more out there. The ending, where Alba decides to break form the cycle of revenge and write her memoir reminded me of The Outsiders. It felt so rewarding to get to the end of the book and to see after all this time someone rise about the adversity they had suffered and make a choice to be something more than a vehicle for revenge. This reminded me in many ways of The Outsiders, a story about a young boy being urged to keep his innocence. While this book isn't about maintaining innocence, I felt like the two books were kindred spirits (to borrow phrase Anne Shirley of Green Gables), because of the recurrent theme of adversity and the way people must choose to react to it. This book is a long-sweeping one, with many plots that interconnect, and yet as the story comes to a close I felt at peace as I closed it, because the ending felt natural in a way that made me feel like I had watched the true metamorphism of a family and it's legacy.

P.S. I commented on AnnaKate and Zane's posts.
