Why do bad things happen to good people? The thought process necessary to understand this answer may lead to the answer of the question "Can we comprehend God through creation?"
If you've ever spoken to people about your faith, and I really hope you have, then you have probably heard the question "If God is real, [or good, or just] then why do good things happen to bad people?" I counter: If God isn't good, then would we know what bad is? What would our definition of bad and good be? And further, where are these good people you are talking about? From a Christian standpoint, there's no such thing as a "good person," just a person who stands in the righteousness of God. I understand that many religions, such as Humanism, believe that goodness can be achieved. To summarize, we understand that the world is imperfect, which means that there must be something perfect. But if the world is imperfect, then the perfect thing or being must be outside of this world. So, by looking at creation, we can understand that there is a higher, perfect being. That is the first thing we can comprehend about God through creation. Other attributes can be explored following this same logic, such as His infinity. We understand we are finite creatures and that everything on this earth has an end, but there is a sense of wrong in death. We mourn those who die, I believe, because we understand that it isn't right, we weren't originally meant to die and end the way we do post-Fall.
