Thoughts from Pascal - Anna Grace

"We possess truth and goodness only in part, mingled with falsehood and evil."

When I read this sentence in this selection written by Pascal, my mind immediately went to the world today. This probably isn't what he meant for this passage to mean but I couldn't help but think of it this way. First, as Christians, we have Christ living in us who changes our hearts and how we live our lives. We will seek to honor God everyday in life and the things we do will certainly be good in this world and in our lives. But we are still sinners, sinners saved by grace, but still sinners. We still have sin and evil in our lives. This world, it has a lot of good in it, amazing and beautiful blessings from the Lord. But this world is still full of evil things and evil people. Everything isn't always going to be 100% perfect. There is going to be negativity but God is still good and He is still in control. Pascal had a lot of interesting thoughts that made me question how well I can actually think about Philosophy.  But the sentence above stuck with me because however Pascal meant for that to be interpreted, it hit home with this girl!

I commented on Addison's post and Cade's post!

That's a great connection! Our world was created very good, but since the Fall of man it has been marred by the curse of sin. Our nature has been corrupted, and creation no longer works as well as it use to. Creation is groaning, man is wicked and deceitful, and in many cases we struggle to arrive at the whole truth. Apart from God's Word, we struggle to find truth that hasn't been distorted by man, we hope and wait for judgement and restoration.

You have a really great point, Anna Grace! We really do see this statement in the global human nature present throughout the world today. Ultimately, I think this is why we can't trust our thought process above God and His Word. Our thoughts can never be so pure and good as God's thoughts and ways. Knowing that God is in control gives me a peace in knowing that even when it's hard, seeking to do good is always worth it because we know who will win the war.

Great point Anna Grace. The world today is a perfect example for how true that quote is. We can study and learn until we are blue in the face but because of the Fall, everything we learn is going to be tainted with sin and we will never fully know it all. Like Moriah and Josh said, the only thing in this world that we can fully trust is God and His Word.

This is such a good point. You are so very correct in saying the world is full of evil as well as good. We are all sinners saved by grace. We learn from sinners saved by grace, as well as sinners who can be saved by grace. I believe we can trust the advice of others, as well as trusting what we think is correct. I think this if, and ONLY if it goes with what God says. We cannot trust our own thoughts or even that of our friends and families' above what God says.
